Who has time to read a book? Sadly, that's very true for many adults. I used to read nightly until I had kids, and then I went four years before picking up a book again. That first book I read after four years ended up being for this blog, and it was called "Built: The Hidden Stories Behind Our Structures." For someone who prefers fiction, I was enthralled with the book. You can read my blog/review of the book through the link below.

How Much Do You Know About What and How We Build?

I've come across another new book relating to the construction industry, "Precision Construction: Principles, Practices and Solutions for the Internet of Things in Construction." Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to read this yet, but I am very intrigued.

I'll be honest, I'm not a construction contractor so my hands-on knowledge of the construction industry is rather limited. And I still get confused by the term Internet of Things (IoT) so this book seems like a good read.

How the Internet of Things is Impacting the Construction Industry

So what's it about? The book highlights a series of eight case studies of digital technologies in action from contractors, rental companies, OEMs and suppliers. It focuses on the digital transformation for construction while teaching the Internet of Things fundamentals with a construction industry focus. According to the Amazon description the book "provides a vendor-neutral, acronym-free framework for understanding IoT." It dives into how IoT and emerging technologies like augmented reality (AR) and robotics are improving business for contractors, rental companies, manufacturers and suppliers.

The book was written as a tool with help, input and knowledge from 22 industry leaders. It's real-world case studies and real-world knowledge applicable now and into the future for construction contractors. If you've been confused by IoT and how it plays into the construction industry perhaps this book can help shine a light and make it clearer.

I plan to keep an eye on my local library to see if this book becomes available; I'm very interested in reading it. Currently, the book is available on Amazon in paperback, audiobook and for the Kindle.

Based on Amazon reviews in early March, it had 5 stars with 19 reviews. One reviewer called the book "a must have for all the industry leaders". Another reviewer said "I'd recommend it to anyone interested in the future of construction."

So what do you construction contractors think? Does this sound like a good, worthwhile read for the time you have?

Any contractors who do read this book, I'd love to hear your feedback. Share your thoughts with me at khegeman@acbusinessmedia.com.
