|The webinar will be held July 25 at 11 a.m. EST and led by Rachael York, DHT, Specification Consultant, Mid Atlantic for Allegion. By the end of this webinar, students will be able to identify how, when and where to use the applicable code requirements and resources available on accessibility for both new and existing construction.|
For accessibility requirements, the model codes refer to ICC/A117.1 – Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities, and a new edition of this standard was just published. Most new and existing buildings are also required to comply with the ADA Standards for Accessible Design. Other accessibility standards and laws may also affect door openings, like state-specific requirements and the Fair Housing Act. With so many layers of requirements, it can be difficult to know which requirements apply to any given project. What is the limit on the operable force for door hardware? Are automatic operators required to have stand-by power? Are retrofit security devices required to comply with the accessibility standards?
